On the 4th May, the Womens reserves were away at Western Springs to play in the torrential rain. The conditions seemed to suit the blues well and they dominated the whole game with countless shots at goal resulting in a 4-0 win.
The midfield put some strong through balls to the front creating some great opportunities for the wingers and the strikers, allowing Tania Potter (player of the day) to score her second hat trick. The final goal came from a great cross from Lisa Yuretich to be knocked straight in the back of the net by a Western Springs player.
The following week, 11 May, the girls took on a fit Mt Albert team at home. The first half Waiuku proved the stronger team, keeping the ball down one end of the field with some fine attempts at goal by Jacqui Bairstow and Renee Goodin.
After a well fought second half and a great shot by Koren Drain that narrowly hit the post, the score still remained 0-0. With only 3 minutes remaining, Shirley Patterson took a fantastic corner to be knocked in by Sarah Gifford (player of the day) to bring the final score to 1-0. |
