Waiuku went down to Onehunga Mangere on Saturday on top of the Mangere Mountain. Waiuku needed to get a win to try and stop the losing streak they were currently on but it wasnt to be.
Onehunga Mangere meant business early when they hit the cross bar four times in the first fifteen minutes with all efforts being hit from some distance. However Waiuku took the lead first. Onehunga Mangere didnt clear a Cody Ralph corner and when the ball was popped back in by Simon Millynn, Sam van Pomeron headed home at the far post. Onehunga Mangere hit back and their club leading goalscorer Joel Facon took on the Waiuku back two with pace and fired home from the edge of the area. Onehunga Mangere continued to dominate and scored on the stroke of halftime with a little luck. Abraham Turner got space on the right hand side and his cross floated into the far corner with Phil van den Broek misjudging its flight.
The second half was a different story and Waiuku dominated. Time after time Waiuku were denied by last ditched tackles or some great saves from the Onehunga Mangere goalkeeper. Finally Millynn scored when a Jamie Pegg cross was headed back across goal by Derek Sinclair and Millynn gave the keeper no chance. Wayne Trout thought he had put his team ahead with a well placed finish but was called offside by the referee after the linesman kept his flag down and stated that it was onside.
Waiuku paid dearly for not putting the game to rest as with five minutes to go Facon broke down the left and Sangster Crawford popped up and the far post to put his team back in front. Waiuku threw everything at Onehunga Mangere but couldnt get a goal. Final score 3-2 to Onehunga Mangere
Coach Jim Evans said "I am proud of my players for the effort in the second half today. They gave it everything and deserved more that losing at the end. We played some good football and kept possession for long periods of time and maybe we have been robbed by the officials offside call. Man of the match was Andrew Millynn for his efforts in midfield.
