Waiuku AFC take inter club golf tournament

Waiuku took on all other Waiuku clubs in the annual golf tournament on Sunday. The team made up of Stuart Ruddell, Caine Robbie, Jesse Smyth Kirk, Cody Ralph, Owen Hill, and Jim Evans surprised even them selves with a win in the nine hole competition. Waiuku AFC were taking on teams such as the cricket club, the rugby club and the Wolf and Beaver.

To play this game each player has to take a shot. The best shot out of all six is the one the team takes next and so on and so on. In nine holes Waiuku AFC finished up on -7. The team birdied all holes apart from the par three holes with some great driving, chipping on to the green and excellent putting.

The highlight of the day was on the final hole when none of the six players got a great drive away. Owen Hill gave the team a chance when he shot from the opposite fair way and dropped the ball about 10 metres from the hole. It meant a challenging shot on to the green as it was uphill but Cody Ralph playing his fourth golf game ever chipped up and in. The team sprung into celebration mode like they had just won the FA Cup final with hugs and dancing (normal soccer celebrations) creating sideway looks from other teams.

The team won a trophy which will be stored at the fortress and presented at the next home game.
