A great start Waiuku Premier Reserves at home verses South Auckland Rangers(SAR) the pitch & conditions were good. Waiuku started the better of the two teams & within two minutes saw Nick Ruygrok head home a well taken corner from Jesse Smyth-Kirk. SAR kicked off again & seemed quite casual in their game. Once again Waiuku put pressure on their defence & were rewarded with a goal from Caine Robbie assisted by Smyth-Kirk. This was Robbie's first goal for the team. Waiuku could not believe their luck but that spurred SAR on to be more forceful in attack & defence which caused Waiuku to make a couple of mistakes & conceded two quick goals to let them equalize. Waiuku held on & the defence began to settle but SAR's hardness started to show & scored again taking them 3.2 at the break.
Start of the second half saw Waiuku come out & play some good constructive football from Ruygrok Owen Hill & Eric Rozeboom & this nearly created an equalizer but again SAR's hardness showed & caused Waiuku's defence to be called upon to make save after save. GoalKeeper Phil Van Den Broek made a number of great saves. Dion Potter Jason Oliver Scott Petersen & Ken Nicoll had solid games with most of the pressure coming from SAR's. Waiuku conceded two further goals in the half. Waiuku kept pressing & were awarded a free kick 20 mtrs out which Potter took only to be headed away by a desperate SAR defender on the far post. Waiuku were still trying to create chances to the end. Final whistle saw the Blues go down 5.2 but Coach Van Den Broek was happy with the team performance commitment & attitude in a very physical game. Man of the Match Honors went to Caine Robbie. Well done
