Waiuku Womens 1sts took on Pukekohe in a local derby held at Bledisloe Park on Sunday 11th May.
Pukekohe came out with a point to make, trying to make amends for their pre season loss (5-3). But the Waiuku women didn't give them a chance. Crunching tackles, great defensive work and a match filled with exciting attacking play by Waiuku.
The only goal was a result of Waiuku doing a great attacking run up the right side of the field ending with a excellent cross by Striker Lisa Wooles and a well taken shot by midfielder Sandie Ralph taking Waiuku to a 1-0 lead early in the match.
The Waiuku ladies did well holding the 1-0 scoreline for the entire match, and creating plenty more chances where they were unlucky not to add to the score.
During a post match dissection of the weekends games by a group of proud waiuku supporters, a reporter rang asking how the ladies got on today against Pukekohe? During the conversation he asked who was the most outstanding player for Pukekohe? We unanimously replied "the referee".
