Waiuku faced Ellerslie for the second time in three days on Tuesday night, after going down 3-0 on Saturday at Michaels Ave. The game on Saturday was a lot closer then the scoreline suggested but again Waiuku were guilty of letting some soft goals in and not taking their chances. Waiuku made the Counties Cup final when they beat Mangere Town in a thrilling penalty shoot out at Massey Park on Sunday. The Waiuku reserves team play in the Auckland competition in Div 2 and on their way to the final they have beaten both Manurewa and Mangere who play in the premier reserve competition which is five divisions above the league they play in. Waiuku hosted Western Springs in the weekend, desperate to put behind them the hammering to second place Fencibles last week. On paper, Waiuku were nearly back to full strength for the first time since round one and with some confidence that they were going to be able to get some much needed consistency on the field. Waiuku hosted Papakura at Massey Park on Saturday in near perfect football playing conditions in a derby game which was both entertaining and intense. Both teams are hovering precariously close to the second bottom placed relegation spot so both teams were looking for the points. Waiuku hosted top of the table Three Kings on Saturday at Massey Park on a wet and miserable day. Three Kings have gone the complete season unbeaten and had now reached the quarter finals of the Chatham Cup, the New Zealand knock out cup where they are travelling to Caversham in Dunedin. They are a team with many National League players and the Auckland FC coach Paul Marshall and it was a great opportunity for Waiuku to up their game. Read more...

However that was all changed by a resurgent Mangere who have signed new players to try and keep the team from being relegated into the Auckland federations. The Franklin derby took place on Saturday at Bledisloe Park with both teams looking for a win for different reasons. Pukekohe are well and truly due a win and Waiuku wanted to bounce back from last weeks defeat to Mt Albert. The game could of gone either way as the lead was taken by Waiuku and then taken back by Pukekohe only for Waiuku to finish strong. Read more.....

Waiuku were knocked out of the Chatham Cup by Premier team Papatoetoe on Queens Birthday Monday however it was closer than the result showed. Waiuku took this as an opportunity to compare themselves with the division above as they strive to try and claim the second place in the league which will give them an opportunity to get promoted. Waiuku took on Waikato/Bay of Plenty division team Te Awamutu in their first New Zealand wide knockout game called the Chatham Cup. Waiuku didn't have it all their own way however even though Te Awamutu play in a division below as they went 2-0 down within 15 minutes only to run riot in the second half and take the game 5-2.
