Waiuku faced Ellerslie for the second time in three days on Tuesday night, after going down 3-0 on Saturday at Michaels Ave. The game on Saturday was a lot closer then the scoreline suggested but again Waiuku were guilty of letting some soft goals in and not taking their chances. Waiuku made the Counties Cup final when they beat Mangere Town in a thrilling penalty shoot out at Massey Park on Sunday. The Waiuku reserves team play in the Auckland competition in Div 2 and on their way to the final they have beaten both Manurewa and Mangere who play in the premier reserve competition which is five divisions above the league they play in. Waiuku hosted Cambridge on Saturday and the two teams produced a very entertaining game of football with both sides having the opportunity to take the three points. Waiuku welcomed back Danny Baldwin and Grant Muckle while the third Baldwin brother arrived early on Saturday morning from Vancouver to start up front. Read more.....

On home soil, the Waiuku ladies suffered a devastating loss in Round 2 of the Women’s Knockout Cup. The Div 2 side faced Div 1 opponents, Fencibles, and dominated, with what supporters reviewed to be their best performance all season. Although the final score was 3-2, Waiuku’s defence claimed credit for three of the five goals, while its strike force took the other two.

Having finished their league matches for the 2009 season, the Waiuku Premiers faced Papatoetoe’s Division 2 side in the first round of the Womens’ Knock-out Cup on Sunday, and claimed a narrow 1-0 victory.

Waiuku travelled to Mangere Mountain looking to build on last weeks win over Western Springs. However the injury curse returned to haunt Waiuku as first Grant Muckle and Joe Rayson ruled themselves out on the Friday while on Saturday morning star winger Danny Baldwin was ruled out as he was taken to hospital with stomach complaints. With Ken Nicoll suffering with a knee injury and relegated to the bench, Waiuku had eleven players on the morning so called in Johnny Whittaker to help out ton the bench even though he hadnt trained all season. Waiuku went down to Western Springs in a midweek game that was played at Seddon Fields. The pitch was an intriguing one with no grass on it at all and the lights not covering the entire pitch but it was the same for both sides as Springs looked for revenge. Read more........

Waiuku hosted Western Springs in the weekend, desperate to put behind them the hammering to second place Fencibles last week. On paper, Waiuku were nearly back to full strength for the first time since round one and with some confidence that they were going to be able to get some much needed consistency on the field. It took until the second half for the football to start flowing the Waiuku way but the game was probably over by then. Read more.....

Waiuku hosted Papakura at Massey Park on Saturday in near perfect football playing conditions in a derby game which was both entertaining and intense. Both teams are hovering precariously close to the second bottom placed relegation spot so both teams were looking for the points. After a hard-fought match in rough conditions, the Waiuku Women took away another victory on the weekend, 4-2 over Western Springs’ second Divison 2 side.

Waiuku hosted top of the table Three Kings on Saturday at Massey Park on a wet and miserable day. Three Kings have gone the complete season unbeaten and had now reached the quarter finals of the Chatham Cup, the New Zealand knock out cup where they are travelling to Caversham in Dunedin. They are a team with many National League players and the Auckland FC coach Paul Marshall and it was a great opportunity for Waiuku to up their game. Read more...

The Waiuku Women's Premiers have finally topped the table fair and square this weekend, with a narrow 1-0 victory over rivals Onehunga, at Massey Park.

There can be no question that the ladies in blue are as prepared as they can be and rearing to go as the climax of the Division 2 season approaches. After another win on away territory in the weekend, 3-1 over Papatoetoe, the Waiuku women are eager to face their rivals, Onehunga in less than a week's time.

Waiuku travelled to Ngarawahia with four first team players injured and giving their extended squad the chance to shine. Ngarawahia who are coached by the Waikato FC coach, is home to some of the best young players in the Waikato region who are looking for promotion into the top division. Read more....

After a thoroughly-earned 1-0 victory over the second of Western Springs' two teams in Division 2, the Waiuku women have finally assumed their place at the top of the table.

Waiuku took on Mangere at the fortress Massey Park on Saturday with their home unbeaten record proudly in check. However that was all changed by a resurgent Mangere who have signed new players to try and keep the team from being relegated into the Auckland federations. Waiuku dropped from fourth to sixth due to other results which damages their chances of a top two finish. Read more....

The Franklin derby took place on Saturday at Bledisloe Park with both teams looking for a win for different reasons. Pukekohe are well and truly due a win and Waiuku wanted to bounce back from last weeks defeat to Mt Albert. The game could of gone either way as the lead was taken by Waiuku and then taken back by Pukekohe only for Waiuku to finish strong. Read more.....

Waiuku travelled to Mt Albert in the weekend in a game which was meant to be close in terms of positions in the league table. Waiuku went into this game in 6th position with Mt Albert in 7th position only two points back Read more....

The ladies in blue are still sitting pretty in second-place-equal on points, after a 3-1 win over Bay Olympic, at Olympic Park on Sunday. The victory was achieved, all the more impressively, amidst a spell of injury and sickness in the Waiuku side.

Waiuku were knocked out of the Chatham Cup by Premier team Papatoetoe on Queens Birthday Monday however it was closer than the result showed. Waiuku took this as an opportunity to compare themselves with the division above as they strive to try and claim the second place in the league which will give them an opportunity to get promoted. Waiuku travelled to Cambridge on a very cold, wet and windy Saturday afternoon knowing that three points may put them into second place of the table. However the dreaded injury curse struck the team again and in the end the Waiuku coaching staff were happy to walk away with a point in a very attacking 0-0 draw. Read more.... 

The month of May presented a miserable sequence of defaulted matches and byes for the Waiuku Women’s Premiers. But finally after three consecutive soccerless weekends, the ladies have picked up where they left off, taking out a 5-3 win over Ellerslie.

Waiuku took on second placed Onehunga Mangere on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run. In a game which saw two very attacking teams in the league go head to head, Waiuku came out the other end with all three points winning the game 2-0. Read more...

Waiuku took on Waikato/Bay of Plenty division team Te Awamutu in their first New Zealand wide knockout game called the Chatham Cup. Waiuku didn't have it all their own way however even though Te Awamutu play in a division below as they went 2-0 down within 15 minutes only to run riot in the second half and take the game 5-2. Fencibles, who represent the Howick Pakuranga area, let the rest of the competition catch up with them with a lost to Ngarawahia last week while Waiuku were full of confidence with a good win against Papakura. Following Saturday's outstanding victories from two of the Waiuku men's teams, both the club's women's sides polished off the weekend with style on their home ground.

Waiuku got their season back on track in a hard fought game against local rivals Papakura at McLennan Park. For the first time all season Waiuku had the option of a full strength side as most players put their recent injuries aside, the rest took pain-killers to keep them going. Read more....

In a top-of-the-table clash in their third league match of the season, the Waiuku Women's 1sts snatched a late 1-1 draw against Western Springs.

Waiuku hosted fifth placed Tauranga on Saturday with both teams desperately wanting the three points to get their seasons going. The game was fast paced and entertaining with four goals but neither team got what they wanted after the game finished 2-2. Read more....

Waiuku went into the battle against Three Kings with the depth of their squad being challenged like never before. Three Kings have a number of the National League club Auckland City including Auckland City coach Paul Marshall who is helped by New Zealand National Coaching Academy coach Aaron McFarland as assistant. After a good win in their first match of the season, week two on the pitch saw further promising results for the Waiuku Women's 1sts with a strong 5-0 victory over Bay Olympic.

Waiuku suffered their first loss of the season when they travelled to Centre Park in Mangere in the weekend. Waiuku failed to turn up, and so did Mangere for long periods of time on a pitch that was hard, dusty and dangerous. Read more.....

Well... The biggest day in Waiuku's Chatham Cup history!! :) Waiuku topple Premier League team Onehunga Sports in a spectacular performance!! Who could've imagined that little old Waiuku could ever compete at this level - let alone take away victories...

First stop at the office next day was the lunch room - to grab the Herald and check out the Chatham Cup wrap-up... we LOVE reading our name in the NZ Herald!! Scanning through the games... Taupo upsets Tauranga... Fencibles get pipped by Mt Albert Grammar... Central United cruise to victory... but NOT EVEN A SENTENCE ABOUT THE INCREDIBLE UPSET OF LITTLE WAIUKU TOWN TOPPLING THE BIG BOYS!!

The Waiuku Women's 1st Div. Team had a hard hit out against Uni-Mt Wellington on Sunday.

The Waiuku AFC Kentish Premiers came home with the points on Saturday, winning 2-1 against Matamata, in their Chatham Cup match.

Waiuku Womens 1sts took on Pukekohe in a local derby held at Bledisloe Park on Sunday 11th May.

On the 4th May, the Womens reserves were away at Western Springs to play in the torrential rain.  The conditions seemed to suit the blues well and they dominated the whole game with countless shots at goal.

The Women's 1st Division Team played Papakura at home, and set out to play good football despite the conditions.

Waiukus 3rd team has a mixture of ages ranging from 13 upwards. We have some players whom have never played before some returning to the game and a few from last years reserves team.

Waiuku's game against Onehunga Sport only took a mere 3 minutes for Jesse Smyth-Kirk to open the scoring after running onto a precise through ball from the midfield catching the opposition defence quite square.

Waiuku Women's Div.1. Team played another of Auckland's Top Teams, Three Kings, on Sunday.

The third week in, the Women?s Reserves took on Papatoetoe at Murdoch Park. 

A strong start by both teams saw consistency of play down both ends of the field.   The back line were in full force again with exceptional play by Jahna Stephens, Shirley Patterson (player of the day), Jodie Dempster and Emma Thomson.  Unfortunately nearing the end of the first half, Papatoetoe took a sharp right shot bring the score to 1-0 in the first half.

Oh, so close to back to back wins, but the game can change in an instant. Twice we had the lead against Ellerslie but for now, the top of the table will have to wait for us.

Waiuku Womens 1st Team travelled to Seddon Fields on Sunday to play a strong Western Springs side boosted by three Premier players.

Outstanding football was played by both sides in excessive windy conditions.

Waiuku Premier Reserves played Fencibles at Massey Park in front of a large home crowd. The game started with great intensity with both sides looking to take the 3 points for a win.

Waiuku AFC's Kentish Premiers travelled to Western Springs in their first ever match in the new inter-Federation soccer league, and delighted their club and supporters with a convincing 2-1 win.

The Waiuku Premier Reserves' rise from division 4 to division 2 seemed to be a good call as they played Bay Olympic. From the outset Waiuku seemed to dominate the game with the strikers John Whittaker and Jesse Smyth-Kirk creating numerous chances which saw Whittaker score the only goal.

On Sunday, the Waiuku Womens' 1st Division Team took on Eastern Suburbs in a hard fought battle under the hot sun at Massey Park, for the 1st game of the season.

The opening game of the season saw the women?s 3^rd division facing an Onehunga Sports side that finished high in the tables last year. With our girls stepping up a division from last year they went into this one the under-dogs, but a 4-2 victory proved they are anything but out of their league.

The 5-0 scoreline is a testament to just how clinical the Waiuku performance was down at Huntly on Saturday afternoon. It becomes even more impressive when put in context... with the game only lasting 55 minutes before a mutual decision between referee and team captains brought the game to an early conclusion.

Steve Bennett served up a timely lesson for Waiuku when he sent Liverpool's lippy midfielder off yesterday morning.

Well... all in all it was a good day out for those who were able to make it, with a lot of promising signs for all concerned. It was always going to be a hard ask to take 3 victories out of the day (given that we really only had two teams worth of players) so the day's results were fairly satisfying. Congratulations to the Men's Reserves and Women's Reserves who both (with a small amount of assistance from a few existing 1st team players) managed to topple their opposition in tough games.

At least the replacement for the Northern League is providing good copy in the region's newspapers. Here's a quick wrap of what the regions are saying.

It was difficult to imagine what to expect from a Waiuku vs Papakura match up, but we’re pretty certain a dominant 4-1 victory (which could easily have been 8 or 9) was a much more exciting outcome than most were predicting.

Saturday the 1^st of March saw Waiuku men and women's first teams travel to Matamata to compete against their respective teams.  The women showed the men how it's done by convincingly beating Te Puke 11-1.

Well... it wasn't Waiuku's 1st team... and it wasn't Taupo's either... and it wasn't a win... but well worth the trip down nonetheless!!

Saturday Feb 16th saw the first trip a Waiuku team has taken down to Taupo in more than 10 years. While it was really about blowing out the summer cobwebs, we'd like to think a good time was had by all - despite the 7 hours driving in one day!

First senior trainings are scheduled to begin in the first week of February.

Men's trainings will be 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from February 5th at the Waiuku Primary School field just across the road from the Soccer Club.

Women's trainings will begin 7:00pm on Wednesdays from February 6th at the Glenbrook training ground.

The first few trainings are open to all players of all levels, past, present and new! It's just an opportunity to get down meet the other members of the club and start getting the fitness and skills back up. So we look forward to seeing you there!!

What an end to the season!

Those of us who have been around Waiuku football a while are struggling to recall a better end to the season for the club as a whole.

While there will always be debate about which team has been the best-ever for the club  - that 1970 cup and league-winning side must go close, as must the side in the late 80s that forced their way into what was then the regional Northern Leagues – for constant performances in a tough league the current generation of Premiers have to sit highly in the rankings.

Well it’s been a pretty good year for the club in 2007 and things could well get even better over the next few weeks. The Kentish Premiers can not do worse than second in Super Division and while it would take some oddball results for us to win from here, you never know. The Mens Reserves would need to forget how to play not to win their league from here, so put money on them to claim the Auckland fourth division title, and our Premier Ladies have their sights set on the Federation Knockout Cup after bowling championship contenders Western Springs last week.

Unbelievable weekend for the Blues!

Just a quick newsletter this week updating everyone on the results from the weekend and including a few match reports from the teams.

In summary though – it has to be one of the best weekends ever for the club as the Kentish Premiers treated once-mighty Pukekohe with contempt, outplaying them all across the park to win 4-0.

It’s all starting to come together….…

The last couple of weeks have seen the New World Waiuku AFC teams begin to gain some momentum in the charge for the titles in this year’s Soccer2 competitions.

In this issue we have a look at the weekend ahead and make some predictions about what it could mean for the club, but first, a look back at last weekend for the Blues.

The best first half of the season to date set up New World Waiuku AFC’s Kentish Premiers for a solid 3-1 win over University-Mount Wellington on Saturday to go clear fourth on the Super Division table.

First, an apology of sorts…

Having been roundly abused by several women in recent days, may I express a total and groveling apology for suggesting in the last match programme that their teams would struggle on the weekend. Clearly, my ability to pick results needs some work. I have decided that I will not be making any predictions about match results in this and future editions, and instead have contracted a foreign soccer expert to make the predictions for the newsletter and match programmes. Of Norwegian, French and German extraction, Kika de Fricken-Balle, writes exclusively for Blues News.

Well, I guess we should say something about derby day at Pukekohe.
It started promisingly enough, with the Third team looking ok and the Prems cutting a swathe through Pukekohe to create some early chances. Then the wheels fell off.

Saturday – can we make it a clean sweep?

The battle for Franklin soccer’s bragging rights is on again in earnest this weekend as Waiuku takes on Pukekohe on our annual derby day.
Last year we cleaned up to take the trophy, and there’s special significance in Saturday’s matches as the club looks to make a clean sweep of the pre-season trophy competitions. Huntly and Mt Albert Ponsonby have visited and have left empty-handed as the silverware spends another season at Massey Park.

Final preparations are being made for this Sunday’s New World Waiuku AFC sponsor’s function at the Kentish Hotel’s Garden Bar. All senior mens and women players, club officials and partners are invited to attend, kids are ok, and premier players are expected to be in attendance. It’s a great chance to meet the other teams in the club and kick back a little before the formal start to the season – speaking of which, there’s now just 31 days to go until we start chasing titles!

Yep, we’re on the path to collect some more silver (we hope), and after the narrow loss against Manurewa’s Northern League side a couple of weeks ago, we returned to George Street and cut Huntly to ribbons.

New Year Soccer Resolutions….

The glories of 2006 have all but faded into the past as Waiuku gets ready for another season of outstanding football in the New Year. Can we top last year? As Bob the Builder would say…”Yes we can!”

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2007 as we prepare for the new season – the first training day is just a couple of days away! Yep, this Sunday (Jan 21) at the George Street grounds there’s a training, weigh-in, speed tests and a few other bits and bobs for any player looking at Prems or Reserves (Mens). Anyone else is welcome for the time trials though, so if you are trying to get yourself into some sort of shape for 2007 and want to a bit more incentive, turn up and we’ll check your current status.
