Reserves take 4-1 at Springs

This week saw Waiuku Premier Reserves take on a Western Springs team which were about the same position on the points table. The conditions were strong winds on a nice firm pitch. Waiuku started into the wind which made it hard going but both teams were well matched & both wanting the 3 points after a draw the weekend before.

The third week in, the Women’s Reserves took on Papatoetoe at Murdoch Park.
A strong start by both teams saw consistency of play down both ends of the field. The back line were in full force again with exceptional play by Jahna Stephens, Shirley Patterson (player of the day), Jodie Dempster and Emma Thomson. Unfortunately nearing the end of the first half, Papatoetoe took a sharp right shot bring the score to 1-0 in the first half.

The first home game of the season for the Women’s Reserves saw them take on an evenly matched team from Manurewa. After winning the toss, Captain Jodi Dempster decided on playing the first half in to the gusty winds, proving a good choice.

Outstanding football was played by both sides in excessive windy conditions.

The Waiuku Premier Reserves' rise from division 4 to division 2 seemed to be a good call as they played Bay Olympic. From the outset Waiuku seemed to dominate the game with the strikers John Whittaker and Jesse Smyth-Kirk creating numerous chances which saw Whittaker score the only goal.

The opening game of the season saw the women’s 3rd division facing an Onehunga Sports side that finished high in the tables last year. With our girls stepping up a division from last year they went into this one the under-dogs, but a 4-2 victory proved they are anything but out of their league.

The 5-0 scoreline is a testament to just how clinical the Waiuku performance was down at Huntly on Saturday afternoon. It becomes even more impressive when put in context... with the game only lasting 55 minutes before a mutual decision between referee and team captains brought the game to an early conclusion.
