Saturday the 1st of March saw Waiuku men and women's first teams travel to Matamata to compete against their respective teams. The women showed the men how it's done by convincingly beating Te Puke 11-1. Waiuku got off to a strong start with Hayley Smith scoring from a pass back outside of the 18 yard box in the first few minutes of the game. Waiuku kept possession and played very composed football throughout. Young striker Lisa Wooles topped the score sheet with 6 goals, followed by Laura Johnstone with 2, Ashley Raines 1, Sandie Ralph 1 and Shirley Patterson 1. Shirley was one of the three reserve team members who kindly stepped up for the first team. Te Puke’s goal was a nicely finished run away effort and well deserved.
The girls are pumped for their tougher upcoming challenges against fellow Division 1 Teams. They face local rivals Pukekohe this weekend and University Mt Wellington on the 12th of March. |
