Men's Reserves game abandoned through injury
By Nigel.Ward @ 12:22 p.m. :: 193 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Senior Mens

The Waiuku Premier Reserves' rise from division 4 to division 2 seemed to be a good call as they played Bay Olympic. From the outset Waiuku seemed to dominate the game with the strikers John Whittaker and Jesse Smyth-Kirk creating numerous chances which saw Whittaker score the only goal.

Waiuku were dominating but in the second half goalkeeper Phil Van Den Broek and defender Grant Mills went for the same ball and collided in mid-air. The referee abandoned the game due to the seriousness of the injury as Mills was taken away by ambulance. The coach thanked the teammates and spectators from Waiuku who responded very quickly to the seriousness of the injury. Mills is now out of hospital and recovering.
