The first home game of the season for the Women’s Reserves saw them take on an evenly matched team from Manurewa. After winning the toss, Captain Jodi Dempster decided on playing the first half in to the gusty winds, proving a good choice.
Both teams fought hard gaining ground in both ends of the field, with the strong back line consisting of Amanda Smith, Shirley Patterson, Jodi Dempster, Emma Thomson and keeper Mandy Wood fending off the opposing team's attempts at goal. At half time after numerous shots at goal from both sides, the score remained 0-0.
The second half the blues started to take control of the game with mid fielder Teresa Thom working hard across the field with some good passes and through balls, granting her player of the day. After some great work through the middle of the field, Shirley took a cracking shot over the keeper and into the net to bring home a 1-0 win. |
