Game of two halves & the Blues won both of them. After 6 weeks of no games the team was not sure what to expect from the Onehunga Sport side as the second round they appeared to have gotten stronger not conceding as many goals & even scoring themselves. It was like the start of the season all over again with pre season nerves for both teams. The Blues started the better of the two with quite a few near misses then it was the Blues turn to defend as O/Sport created a chance of their own & keeper Phil Van Den Broek (back from the 1st team) had to make a very important save which He did. Waiuku pressed forward & in the 22nd & 24th min Prawet Waenthongkhasi (Vet) scored two fine goals. At this stage the Blues were in control & in the 27th min Logan Tukiri got His 1st goal for the Club. The Blues still squandered quite few more chances & this seemed to spur on O/Sport & with mins to go before the break they pulled one back.
The second half the Blues dominated play from the kick off which rewarded them with a goal in the 47th min. Ken Nicoll received the ball beat His marker & from 28m out struck the ball into the roof of the old onion bag & left the Keeper stranded. The Blues were on fire now & beating players at will with some beautiful passing football being played. O/Sport had other ideas & attacked the goal which had Phil making a desperate save even thou the striker came in at Him with spriggs up. The referree decided the keeper took the player out & awarded a penalty. The Waiuku players were disappointed with the decision but it stood. Everything was very quiet as the O/Sport player stepped up to take the shot but Phil dived the correct way saving the shot (phew). The Blues then stepped it up another notch & Eric Rozeboom put His shot away. On the stroke of full time Nick Ruygrok received the ball & beat the keeper at the near post to make the final score 6.1. Man of the match went to Phil for an all round performance.
Well done Boys & lets continue this type of football for the remainder of the season.
