What can you say to a mudbath, rain soaked field and the 11th wekas went a hunting in the mud.It was a game in which the conditions should have played a part but the wekas revelled in the conditions and from the kickoff scored in about 7 seconds, one nil up from Alan Turoa Barnett, it was a hard slog and both teams tired easily in the mud and rain.It was a goal from Beachlands that took everybody by suprise and it did not look to easy from then on, but the wekas came on strong and some great play down the dry side saw them score three more quick goals to go to the halftime whistle 4-1 up.A composed coach took them aside and gave them a pep talk. The second half was a one way race for the finish and some great play from Greg Jamieson down the right half and combining with Captain Simon Peat played the ball on to the superb striker Alan Turoa Barnett who was a boy on a mission and no one could stop his attack on the Beachlands goal slamming in another four goals in the second half, with this in mind Simon also snatched a late goal to take the lads to a convincing 9 goal win, some good defence from Jacob Waldergrave and John Single with some quick thinking and great runs down the mud filled trench by Nathan Hyde and backed up by the ever present Ben BUchanan who played his heart out and gave the opponents plenty to think about, Callum Senior also played a great game bravely diving to the feet of the opposing players, and for him it was a couple of unlucky rebounds that he tried hard to save but he struggled in the conditions and all the boys came off not showing the Blue strip at all ,rather a brown mucky looking lot ,it was a superb performance by the Waiuku side and player of the day went to co winners Simon Peat, and Alan Turoa Barnett who has to this stage in the league scored a amazing 20 goals to date, well done the Blues (or Browns) with many games posponed over the weekend it will come down to the wire for the championship which the boys are in a 5 point lead at the moment. |
