What a day and the field conditions didnt help the boys at all ,it was a porridge and glue affair and it was very difficult to get going, From the kickoff the boys in blue started well with Alan Turoa Barnett going hell for leather down the centre and was strongly attacking the Clevedon goal some good shots were going nowhere in the sticky mud,the ball just bogged down in front of the goal, the boys tried hard and Captain Simon Peat , with Greg Jamieson tried hard to compete for the ball and take it to the Clevedon goal line but it was too hard going for the lads and at half time a very tired and dirty looking wekas came off the field the score being 0-0 .This was a very good Clevedon team who are only where they are on the ladder because of some very close encounters which have them drawing several games. Some HARD STERN WORDS from the very uncomposed coach saw the boys go on to the field and start to play some better soccer,it was Alan Turoa Barnett who broke the deadlock in the tenth minute of the second half, this was also the inspiration that the Clevedon team needed and attacked the wekas with some good play by the way of their strong forward player who on more than one occasion fired on the Waiuku goal, some superb saves by the Waiuku keeper Callum Senior kept the Clevedon boys out. Both teams were getting very tired and Captain Simon Peat scored a great goal to take the Wekas into a 2 goal lead, some very hardy defence by Sean Jamieson and Ben Buchanan kept the oppostion at bay and in the dying minutes of the game defender Jacob Waldergrave saved a goal by doing what he does best ,it was a great win in the conditions and the Waiuku team would have on a dry field scored very many more goals, but the 3 points count and player of the day Jacob Waldergrave and co hosted by Callum Senior.played a vital role in the outcome, this takes the wekas in to top position, and with Papatoetoe losing to Pukekohe just leaves Fencibles the only team to challege the boys in blue, with only one game to play next week its looking good for the Waiuku lads to take the title. |
