With three of the regular squad down with the flue this week and a hard game against Pukekohe looming ,it was not the build up needed for the final game of the season, a win or draw would more than likely be enough to secure the top position for the brave boys in Blue.It was a sorry looking team that turned up on the saturday morning and Alan Turoa Barnett looked very sick as was Ben Buchanan and Callum Senior. The rest of team had to stand up and be counted and it was a very hard fought battle in the first half, some good attacking play saw the Wekas nearly go into the lead but a muddle in the goal mouth was all too much and the boys didnt put it away ,some very strong running up the left flank by Greg Jamieson saw Captain Simon Peat receive a good early ball and tried hard to put it away but some strong defending by Pukekohe kept them out. The game see sawed back and forth and a error by the Waiuku Keeper saw Pukekohe grab he first goal,it was 1-0 to Pukekohe at halftime, the second half saw waiukuall attack position as a loss would be no good in this last game, Alan struggled and was taken off the field and it was a very brillant shot by Captain Fantastic Simon Peat who broke the Pukekohe defence,it was a good old arm wrestle from then on and Ben Buchanan who battled on depite his illness kept the Puke side away , some great goalkeeping by Callum and defensive play by Jacob aldergrave Nathan Hyde and John Single kept the score 1-1 and the boys needed this result for them to secure the title, it all hinges on Fencibles drawing or losing their last two games and the lads in blue desrve it. What a great result ,hese boys have played there hearts out this season and have only lost one game all year and drawn two this includes the grading round which they also won , As Coach of these great boys im sooooooooo proud of what they have done this year and its a credit to all the parents of the children well done boys your work is over for the Year and we can all look forward tonext year and hopefully a rise to the first division . |
