A forty seated bus took members of the Waiuku AFC to the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup to watch the final between North Korea and the USA.

The day was organized by club captain Grant Muckle who planned the day to perfection well in advance.

The bus met the crowd at the Waiuku clubrooms at about 10.30 where they started their long journey north to Albany. When the bus arrived, it took everyone on a grand round tour of the outside of the stadium while it looked for a park. The bus finally stopped and the crowd immediately went over to the competition stalls to take part. Most people took part in the penalty shoot out, the juggling competitions, the kick the ball in the hole competition and the binocular penalty shoot outs.

After a few laughs and some prizes the crowd settled into Block 8 to watch the first event which was the third/fourth placed playoff between England and Germany. Germany easily won 3-0 and the Waiuku favourite was Popp the tall, strong and fast left winger. She was very similar to Waiuku’s Cody Ralph actually.

The crowd enjoyed some drinks at the bar before the main event, which was the final played between North Korea and USA. It was a very close affair and the Koreans finally scored in the second half of extra time to take a come from behind 2-1 win.

The crowd stayed on for the presentations and when finished, jumped back on the bus to take the trip back to sunny Waiuku. A great day had by all!!!!

Take a look at the photos section for pictures of the day.
